Community Pet Care Event ~ a successful first step
The Community Pet Care Event in Burns Lake and Southside, BC wrapped up on Tuesday after ten days of non-stop hard work. Over 250 dogs and cats were spayed or neutered and even more received a health check, along with vaccination and de-worming.

Premier announces Canada's toughest animal cruelty laws
The Province will immediately begin the process to make changes to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, including increasing penalties to up to $75,000 and 24 months imprisonment for the most serious offences, extending the current six-month limitation period for prosecuting offences, and requiring mandatory reporting of animal abuse by veterinarians. The BC SPCA has also received a $100,000 grant to enhance their capacity for animal cruelty investigations.

Canada Revenue Agency moves to muzzle animal charities
The Canada Revenue Agency on February 5, 2011 published new regulations governing animal charities which would revoke the nonprofit status of any who oppose vivisection, hunting, trapping, the fur trade, seal-clubbing, animal agriculture, and any other legal use of animals.
