Community Pet Care Event ~ a successful first step

The Community Pet Care Event in Burns Lake and Southside, BC wrapped up on Tuesday, June 14 after ten days of non-stop hard work. Over 250 dogs and cats were spayed or neutered and even more received a health check, along with vaccination and de-worming. The only disappointment was that there was not enough time to attend to all of the dogs and cats that came to the clinic in Burns Lake.

The work put into this event by the tireless organizers Valerie Ingram and Alistair Schroff of Lakes Country Animal Friendship Society, the Canadian Animal Assistance Team and the volunteers was simply amazing.

Entrance to the Sounthside CAAT clinic.

CAAT was so well-organized they turned the small space into a very efficient clinic.

A beautiful dog waits patiently for his turn in the clinic.

Support and resources provided by both communities for the pet health care clinics, the 'Building a Community of Care' Round Table and the 'Spay-ghetti and No-Balls' Community Dinner helped to ensure people were aware of the opportunity for their pets and could learn about the need to spay and neuter and provide adequate health care for their pets throughout their lives.

The CAAT clinic in Burns Lake was in a far more spacious hall that had room for owners to stay with their
pets and watch the CAAT team at work. What a unique opportunity for everyone to see how much everyone involved cared about the animals!

Wonderful artwork by local schoolchildren expressing gratitude for the hard work by the CAAT team members, also illustrated how much the children have learned about caring for animals.

Photos, videos and stories are still being gathered and will be posted in a section dedicated to this event. Please be sure to complete the Join form to be notified when this information is available.
